I moved there from ...Minneapolis was an eye opener. I moved there from the polar bear capital of the world, because I once saw an episode of MTM, in which a gay bar was mentioned, and I thought that was the closest one to me, even though it was thousands of miles away. Many Americans assumed because I didn't swim across a river that I wasn't an alien, and after all, isn't Canada part of the states. I also remember some zealous friends insisting to others that it was "MY DREAM TO BECOME An AMERICAN", when the reality of the dream is that I wanted a boyfriend, and Mary Richard's life. Eventually I had to leave, because I had to work under the table at low paying jobs, and a future of cutting vegetables for catering companies was not the future I had envisioned for myself.
However, I went out with this incredibly handsome, kind art student , and he was worth every tomato I had to slice. Or was it all the queer kids? I can't remember.

Chad: Maude was not a show I watched as a child, but I have grown to appreciate it as an adult. And who doesn't want to be Bea Arthur's friend?!

Torn: Periodically my parents would clamp down on my t.v. viewing. For several years I got a t.v. allowance (three or four yours per week). I could use them however I wanted, but once they were gone, no more. They did, however, carry over into the next week if I didn't use them all.

More recently, my sister has decided that t.v. is totally bad for her son. As a result, they don't even own one. I can't decide whether I think that is good or bad (probably good, but it would have made me very sad).

ROG: Yeah, I know. Still, he extolled the virtues of Corinthian leather with dignity -- DIGNITY, I say.

Pacalga: I know! I think that was more disheartening that any Corinthian leather pitch could have ever been.

Earl: You know, I hadn't even thought about Alice until JP did his list on this topic. I was also a little disturbed by how much I could sing along with the lead character.

Cooper: I think my desire to be a gentleman's gentleman influenced the inclination to being a butler.

Adjunct Whore: It's amazing how much children find camp so interesting, isn't it?

Seeker: I thought about including both of those shows as well. Have you seen Gil Gerard recently? He has seen better days.

Lotuslander: The Welcome Back Kotter song is classic. I also liked WKRP (I also liked WKRP because the lead character was supposed to have moved to Ohio from New Mexico (when New Mexico was almost never mentioned on t.v. (Yes, we were a desperate crew for validation))). How was Minneapolis?

Marlan: Damn it, no! For some reason I can't get my DVR to record The Simpsons consistently.

Arthur: I like the uncertain aspect of the first season's theme. The second version always seemed a bit too hard to relate to (Is my smile really going to turn the world on? Can I make a nothing day suddenly seem all worth while? That's too much pressure, man).GayProfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11289510184782252498noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16010478.post-20843514833623678822007-03-26T13:35:00.000-07:002007-03-26T13:35:00.000-07:00I was wondering why you chose that version of the ...I was wondering why you chose that version of the "Wonder Woman" theme until you explained it. But I was more surprised by the "MTM" theme: The early version ended "you MIGHT just make after all" while the later version became "You're GONNA make it after all". I always preferred the second one, and liked it and the show for exactly the reasons you suggest.

I attended an NGLTF conference in Minneapolis, and the thing I most wanted to see was the intersection where Mary tossed her hat. I think my local hosts were somewhat embarrassed. And remember Rhoda's ill-fated hat-toss on her spin-off?

But like Chad, I also loved "Maude" (Chad you can see the them song here).
